What is windshield washer fluid?
Effective windshield washer fluid is an important part of safety, providing good visibility and safe driving. But what does washer fluid contain? What is the difference between ready-mixed and concentrated fluid? And what determines its freezing point? Arom-dekor answers the questions worth knowing about windshield washer fluid!
What does windshield washer fluid contain?
Windshield washer fluid consists of water and varying amounts of alcohol. The two most common alcohols are ethanol and isopropanol. Alcohol has a low freezing point and is used in washer fluid to regulate the fluid’s freezing point. The ratio of water to alcohol determines the washer fluid’s freezing point. Washer fluid also contains different additives depending on whether it is intended for winter or summer use. Winter washer fluid contains, among other things, antifreeze and surfactants adapted to deal with dirt found in winter, such as road salt. Summer washer fluid contains less antifreeze and other surfactants that easily remove protein-rich contamination such as insects. All washer fluids from Arom-dekor have in common that they effectively remove dirt and traffic film.
Why use windshield washer fluid?
Windshield washer fluid - for greater road safety
Washer fluid is used to clean the windshield, rear window and headlights and is a crucial safety factor in reducing the risk of road accidents. To remove dirt, it is important to combine the right washer fluid with good wiper blades. Properly functioning wiper blades also use less washer fluid. Good wiper blades should not leave streaks on the glass. If the wiper blades start to lose their effectiveness and leave streaks on the windshield, it is time to replace them. The same applies if the wiper blades start to lose contact with the glass or if the rubber has dried out or cracked.
Check the washer fluid
Most vehicles give a warning when the washer fluid is running low. Even so, it is a good idea to check the washer fluid level regularly.
What types of washer fluid are available?
There are ready-mixed and concentrated washer fluids. Ready-mixed washer fluid can be used straight away, while concentrated washer fluid should be diluted with water. The amount of water added affects the frost protection and determines the washer fluid’s freezing point. Choose washer fluid to suit the season. Different washer fluids are adapted to the varying conditions that the seasons bring, such as summer washer fluid, which is particularly suitable for summer use.
Ready-mixed washer fluid
Ready-mixed washer fluid is suitable if you want to save time and are unsure how to achieve the right mixture. AdProline® offers ready-mixed summer washer fluid with a freezing point of −5°C and ready-mixed washer fluids with freezing points of −18°C and −30°C respectively for colder temperatures.
Concentrated washer fluid
Concentrated washer fluid is suitable if you feel confident diluting the fluid yourself and want to save money in the long run. Concentrated washer fluid has a lower price per litre once diluted. AdProline® concentrated washer fluid provides frost protection down to below −65°C when undiluted. Follow the instructions on the packaging to find out how much water to add for a freezing point of −10°C, −15°C or −30°C.
If the washer fluid freezes
Choose a washer fluid with a freezing point lower than the expected temperature to avoid the risk of the entire washer system freezing.
