AUS 40 is not the same as AdBlue® (AUS 32)

AdBlue® / AUS 32 contains approximately 32.5 % urea and is designed for road transport (truck/bus).

AUS 40 has a higher concentration and is designed for larger engines and marine SCR systems. The products are not interchangeable.

Using the wrong concentration can lead to problems including operational disruptions, damage to SCR systems, and issues with warranties and emissions requirements

SCR technology – how NOₓ is reduced

SCR stands for selective catalytic reduction and is a technology used to reduce harmful nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases from diesel engines. For the SCR system to work, a reducing agent is required – and in marine operations this is often Urea 40 % / AUS 40.
 

Reduced NOₓ emissions

When Urea 40 % is injected into the exhaust system, heat converts the solution into ammonia (NH₃).
In the SCR catalyst, the ammonia reacts with nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) and converts them into:

• Nitrogen (N₂)

• Water (H₂O)

The result is lower emissions and better compliance with requirements in shipping and industry.
 

What is Urea 40 % / AUS 40?

Urea 40 % (AUS 40 = Aqueous Urea Solution 40 %) is an aqueous solution containing approximately:

• 40 % urea

• 60 % deionised water

The term AUS 40 is mainly used in marine applications, while Urea 40 % is often used more generally.
